Our green is one of the largest in the local league measuring about 38m square (about 54m from corner to corner). The surface is known to be quite slow even when freshly mown and dry. Theories abound as to why this is! Also, the east edge of the green is slightly lower than the west edge so there is a definite uphill and downhill feel when playing across the green. Obviously our home team players get used to all this and tactically we often "go long" to test the visiting teams' strength! Typically four games will be played on the green at the same time.Â
There are two entrances to the green. One in the south-west corner by the main car park and one on the east side next to the clubhouse.
There are a number of benches around the green for spectating and on match days we also put out enough plastic chairs for everyone to have a seat. Traditionally the home team sit on the east side of the green whilst the visiting team sit on the north side.
